Engine overhaulDated: 25/03/07
The Yanmar diesel engine on Mai Tai has excellent access for general maintenance, but there is also much of it hidden from view deep down in the bilge. To enable us to check these areas and have a complete overhaul of the engine we decided to take it out completely. Using a complex block-and -tackle system from the boom overhead, the two of us winched the 250kg mass up through the companionway and over the side to an awaiting trailer. We were now able to check the engine mounts and all that hides beneath .
Down in the workshop at Whiting Power, our engine was carefully dissected while we had a full explanation of care and maintenance of a diesel engine.
There is a chapter which includes all this valuable information in our next film.
