New DVD Release

"Reach For the Sea Vol 2 - New Zealand" is finally finished.

Since our last log entry over a year ago,we have been pre-occupied with editing a whole year's worth of footage into a DVD. A film of 120 mins cannot possibly do justice to the hugely diverse and spectacular scenery that is to be found around New Zealand's 15,000km coastline.
However we have tried to give a comprehensive overview, including some relevant historical points of interest, of a part of New Zealand that only a handful of people get to visit.
We worked with a local musician to write the music score, found our narrator up in Auckland, and all in all the whole process was a mammoth task, but we are delighted with the result.

We did much of the editing while on board Mai Tai, but as winter approached, we decided to move ashore to complete the film there.
Our heater kept us cosy inside Mai Tai but the ice on the docks each morning and the snow covering the nearby mountains reminded us that we were no longer in the winterless North.

Nelson boasts about being one of the sunniest regions in New Zealand, and with its very protected marina close to town, it wasn't surprising to find quite an international community of cruisers based here.

It is an easy place to stop, find work, even a house, while keeping your boat nearby but we feel it would be a real shame to leave here without taking hikes to explore some of the stunning National Parks located in this part of the world.

We are going to be doing just that while we are here, enjoy sailing Mai Tai again over summer then start planning our next cruising adventure, north to the tropics before continuing our journey westwards.
